K∆IGERH∆RDT
Kai Gerhardt is a Berlin-based fashion and textile designer who primarily works with a black and white palette. The design of Gerhardt's garments is based on his own fabric creations which lend his collections a distinctive and unique touch. With his 2015 BA graduate collection put your lights on, Gerhardt focused on new weaving techniques; 2017 saw the launch of his first commercial collection black and white are not grey located at the junction of street style and the avant-garde; his 2019 MA graduate collection LET THE FUTURE BE HUMAN was informed by a concentration on innovative knitting technologies. Gerhardt’s approach to construction utilizes both classic tailoring and free draping to yield detailed and approachable pieces for a variety of wardrobes. His garments maintain a commitment to function while freeing themselves from aesthetic tradition.
Gerhardt studied fashion design at the University of the Arts Berlin and has worked under local designers Mads Dinesen and Muyao Zhang.
